i did it! i am officially banded! my surgery was a couple hours dealyed (i was number 3) but went off without a hitch. as i mentioned before i was not planning on staying the night but i had some major discomfort with the pain and gas after surgery so around 9PM i asked to stay. amazingly, by the time i got to my private room i was much more comfortable. i really think the chaos of the recovery room made it hard for me to relax my body. i even tried meditating. there was the guy on my right screaming he was dead. when he was told he was not dead and we were all here with him he yelled "well then we are all dead"! and you had the lady on my left mooing and bleating. i was discharged this morning.
i can not enough about Dr. Thomas Bass and his team. they are so thorough. nice. caring. if you are in south florida, i recommend at least giving them a looky-loo.
i have 3 incisions. the port on the left, a small one on the right -- both of these between my boobs and waist line. and one small one in my belly button. no hernia.
my mom was there with me and she was such an amazing support. the last thing she said to me before i went in for surgery was "i really am so proud of you". that means so much to me.
i know there have been some discussions about this at lapband talk -- but i can not stress how much support i am getting from everyone i tell. even as we were walking into the hospital i ran into a good friend's mom and she too was so excited for me. i have to say -- it is almost like i hear a sigh of relief when i tell people about my decision. i feel bad that my weight had been something of a concern for so many people.
i am on clear liquids for today and tomorrow and i am kind of weak. since last night i have had only ice pops, hot tea, jell-o and a little broth at the hospital. however, i did just nap for two hours after taking some pain killer and i did wake up wanting "something"....so will have some broth.
didn't wake up with a skinny body....but i did wake up with a skinny mind. healthy weight here i come!
feel free to ask me any questions....
YEAH! I've been checking for a post for you for the last 24 hours. I'm soooo glad it went well. Great attitude - I can't wait to join you in 22 days.
ReplyDeleteAnd to answer your question, no, the hospital gown makes your behind look incredibly skinny!
Amy
22 days? Apparently I've lost all ability to do math. Let's try FIFTEEN days!
ReplyDeleteAmy
the funny thing is this morning the nurse changed me out of the bariatric gown into a "regular" gown because i was swimming in the bariatric gown and flashing the hall as i roamed. lol. of course she had to put a regular gown over the back too since it wasn't like i was swimming in that. but i got a kick out of dropping a gazillion sizes in hospital gowns overnight!
ReplyDeleteyou will do great. it will be here before you know it. just think... this year we really will be able to keep our weight loss resolutions on january 1st! and by thanksgiving next year most of this will be behind us.
I've been reading your blog and enjoying it. I'm one of the people struggling with who to tell. So far, I'm keeping it pretty quiet as I go through the preliminaries and make my final decision, but may tell more people when the time actually comes. So far the people I have told are being incredibly supportive.
ReplyDeleteLove the gown story, btw!
